How lab work is tracked in CAPS28.

Clinic-wide dental lab work list with job number, patient and status in CAPS28 software
The Labworks list: every lab job in the clinic with its number, patient, lab, work type, colour-coded status, expected date and amount.

The Labwork module tracks every job you send to a dental laboratory — crowns, bridges, dentures, aligners, and anything else made off-site — from the moment it is created until the finished work is back and fitted. It replaces the whiteboard and the paper docket with a searchable, colour-coded list, so nothing is lost and you always know what is due back and when.

Two ways to see lab work

  • Clinic-wide list — the main Labworks screen lists every lab job across all patients, with columns for Labwork No., Created On, Patient, Lab, Work, Status, Expected On and Amount. This is the view the front desk and lab coordinator live in.
  • Per-patient — the Labworks tab inside a patient record shows just that patient’s jobs, and lets you print their lab history.

The status lifecycle

Every lab job carries a colour-coded status so its stage is obvious at a glance:

  • Created — the job has been raised in CAPS28 but not yet sent to the lab.
  • Sent — dispatched to the laboratory.
  • Received — the finished work has come back to the clinic.
  • Completed — fitted / delivered to the patient and closed.
  • Cancelled — the job was called off.
  • Correction — sent back to the lab for an adjustment.
  • Repeated — the work had to be remade.

You can filter the list by any status from the status dropdown, search by patient or job, and open any job to see its full details and activity history.

What you can do

The list of laboratories and work types you can choose from is maintained in clinic setup — see the Laboratory section under Office / Admin.
