Raise a new lab order with shades and teeth.

Creating a dental lab order for a patient with work type and due date in CAPS28 software
The Add Labwork form: choose the patient, lab and work type, pick the shade and teeth, set the dates and amount, and submit.

Raising a lab order in CAPS28 captures everything the laboratory needs on one form — who the work is for, which lab, what to make, the shade, the teeth involved, when it is due and what it costs. A complete order means fewer phone calls and remakes.

Opening the form

From the clinic-wide Labworks list click Add New, or from a patient’s Labworks tab click New (the patient is pre-filled).

Filling in the order

  • Patient — start typing a name or patient ID and pick from the autocomplete (already set if you came from a patient record).
  • Lab — choose the laboratory from your clinic’s configured labs.
  • Work — choose the work type (for example crown, bridge, denture, aligner) from your configured list.
  • Shades Guide — select the tooth shade from either Vita Classical (A1–D4) or Vita 3D Master. You pick from one guide at a time, so the shade is unambiguous for the technician.
  • Teeth — click the teeth involved on the full-mouth chart. It follows your clinic’s tooth-numbering system, and you can select as many teeth as the job needs.
  • Notes — any instructions for the lab; you can dictate them with speech-to-text.
  • Job Creation Date and Expected Date — when the job is raised and when you need it back (date & time).
  • Amount — the lab’s charge for the work.

Submit

Click Submit. The job is created with a status of Created and a unique Labwork No., and appears in both the clinic-wide list and the patient’s Labworks tab. From there you move it through its status lifecycle as it is sent, received and fitted.
